Tepeztate is a slow and wild growing species that
takes 18–30 years to mature, culminating in a tall
stalk with bright yellow flowers. Native to the Mixtec
highlands / steep cliffs its leaves often show unique
whitish marbling, giving the plant its scientific name,
which means „marbled agave.” The striking inflore-
scence has long been used in ceremonial practices. Te-
peztate mezcal is renowned for its complex and laye-
red flavor, ranging from mineral and lactic notes to
herbal and fruity tones, with distinctive hints of ba-
nana that make it one of the most expressive agaves.
