The name Pichumetl comes from Nahuatl, where „Pi-
chu” means pig and „Metl” means maguey, translating
to „Pig’s Agave”. This agave is recognized by its loose
rosettes with green to yellow-green leaves and is also
valued in traditional Mexican herbal medicine for its
healing qualities. Pichumetl is distinctive and expres-
sive, offering mineral, earthy, and lactic notes. Its uni-
que flavor develops over the long maturation period,
as the plants often grow among rocks and earthy soils,
imparting a character that is both rustic and refined,
reflecting the terroir where it thrives. Pichumetl ma-
tures faster than Tepextate (15-18 years vs 18-30 years),
with higher sugar levels and a sweeter, richer profile.
